PINES4CHANGES - Silvicultural strategies for adaptation and mitigation of climatic change in pine afforestations.
This Project sets out different silvicultural prescriptions to favor adaptation to climate change of afforested Mediterranean pine forests in addition to promote its role in mitigation. Many pine afforestation are homogenous in terms of composition and forest structure. High densities and extensive continous cover areas are also common. The main causes of these features are first time afforestation in large areas, and the lack of applied silviculture that lead to high vulnerability to global change. In addition, these afforestations play an important role in mitigating the effects of climate change by fixing CO2 during the growth phase, being more intense when afforestations imply land use change. An adequate silvicultural management must assure diverse and feasible forest systems to meet needs of society, like carbon sinks, on a sustainable basis that favors naturalization.
PLURIFOR pone el acento en incorporar los últimos conocimientos científicos sobre los riesgos forestales del sudoeste de Europa a los mecanismos de gestión de riesgos civiles, para hacer frente a estos mismos y sus impactos. Las administraciones y las instituciones de los socios trabajan en colaboración para desarrollar planes de gestión actuales basados en pruebas.
NGSFORFUSARIUM - Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies for the study of Fusarium circinatum mycoviruses. The virus detection techniques routinely used, like reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), require prior knowledge of the virus in order for it to be detected and are, thus, inadequate for the detection of mycoviruses in fungus, of which very little is known to date. A metagenomic approach, coupled with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), however, has the power to determine the complete virus community or virome of an organism, including mycoviruses.

The Sustainable Forest Management Group of the University of Valladolid has been awarded with a Knowledge Transfer Strategy from the Innovation Department from the General Foundation of the University of Valladolid. This strategy fits within the regional plan of Knowledge-Transfer TCUE 2015-2017 and has been selected within the frame of a cooperative program financed jointly between the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Regional Government of Castile-Leon.
